City of Djemila

Djemila is a small mountain city  located 35 km northeast of the current wilaya of setif , it is located on a series of mountainous hills surrounded by valleys, it is about 900 meters above the sea. The beautiful Roman city occupies a total area of 42 hectares and contains well preserved Roman ruins like baths, markets, shops and squares, it also has temples ,churches and triumph arcs and is considered as an example of the Roman civic organization adapted to mountainous sites.

the site today plays the role of tourist attractor from both inside and outside the country . this historical city of djemila stands out as an artistic and architectural art , witnessing the history of the romans in algeria and is one of the cities that is still preserving its originality and its roman civilization character


     The city is known for its roman urban architecture, which adopted a chess board  shape as a plan for the foundation of  the roman city. It is a great architecture done meticulously  and  distributed through its many buildings ;that are  still clear today especially on the columns, the harmonious decorations , streets and houses .

Despite the city’s geographical location characterized by the harsh mountain terrain, it did not stop the development of the city . in a rugged and rough land covered by mountains in the past , dense forests , plains , and the vast high plateaus rich in wheat ,it provided large water ground fields and gradually increased in growth until the city reached its peak.
