Timgad

118c76f9500">Timgad is one of the archaeological cities established by Romans in Algeria it is currently located in the Wilaya of Batna in the east of Algeria, it is about 32 km away from the capital of the Wilaya. Timgad was founded in its beginnings during the reign of Trajan in 100 bc on an area of 12 hectares, it expanded to 50 hectares when it got transformed into a city with defensive military objectives ,  a full city with its various facilities, built on the shape of a semi square followed by the implementation of the plans of the Hippodamian roman city in two principal roads north-south and east-west, many secondary roads parallel to the first two ones branched off, a set of squares was dedicated to establishing the private housesAt the junction. the city is characterized by its beauty and grandiosity regarding its architecture. One of the main characteristics of timgad  is the two principal roads that both end with large doors; the city’s main gates.  the important archaeological remains in Timgad found in the city were: 268 mosaic paintings of which 85 were found in bathrooms.

bearing in mind the huge yard in the center of the city  containing many  different other remains,  like  temples, theaters and  cathedrals, in addition to the city’s biggest monument; the theater which  is still existing nowadays, it is considered as the biggest theater in the world which a capacity of about  3500 spectator, many plays,parties and festivals were held there 

The city also preserves the temple of Ceres , considered as the most famous temple of the city, due to this huge heritage, the city was included in the list of world heritage by UNESCO in 1982.
