Ain Torki Resistance 1901
1. Introduction:
The historians tried to distort the uprising by emphasizing the religious bigotry and superstitions blaming its operators. The truth behind the resistance of Ain Torki goes back to many factors; the first one is the colonial subjugation consisting of confiscation of public and private land and property. The second is the abuse of the colonial administration in the application of the Indigenat and forestry laws.
The events of this uprising occurred on 26 April 1901, when hundreds of Algerian farmers attacked a European settlement in Ain Torki, which was built on confiscated lands for the Pied Noir. However, this uprising was faced with severe repression after the arrival of the military forces from Miliana on the same day.
